DANCING IN THE DARK (Bruce Springsteen) mp3.
I was riding in the car with Laila and this song came on the radio. She asked me how I felt about it and I told her I guess it was ok. I gave her the classic, "I'm more into, you know, Nebraska and like, Asbury Park." She turned up the radio to ten and started to drive like 80 MPH on Western and I swear to god she wasn't looking at the road because she was too busy looking me dead in the eye and singing every lyric. She wanted to end me right there. I figured I was going to die so I sat there and really paid attention to the way she delivered the lyrics. I remember her voice cracking, and she grabbed at her chest a lot. But I finally got it. I think the lyrics were drowning in a sea of "Glory Days" and Courtney Cox shaking her ass on the MTV. Laila nailed it though.
These are some of Bruce's finest lyrics. Courtney Cox ruined it for everybody. You hear me, Courtney? You're fucking dead to me.

THE VERY FIRST LIE (Material Issue) mp3.
I don't know what possessed me to do this. This song hit me at the right time. It's so basic and simple. It just reminds me of better times I guess. That's the motive.

OUTSIDE THE WALL (Pink Floyd) mp3.
I like the way Roger Waters delivers the lyrics over the children singing the same shit. I was fifteen when I first heard this. I think I stopped listening to all other music for like two years after I got this record. I also went to the local head shop and got a blacklight poster. I still stop whatever I'm doing to pay attention to this song. What a great way to end a record.

MADONNA OF THE WASPS (Robyn Hitchcock) mp3.
This song should have been a hit. Hitchcock has been robbed now for years. I remember having a cold when I recorded this. In my old house, I would usually record covers when I was pissed and wanted to be left alone. The girl I was living with would clean the house, but like, really loudly when she was pissed. You can hear her cleaning dishes somewhere in the last verse. She fucking hated my ass.
